The Digital Job Creation for Youths (DJCY) programme, implemented by the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC), is designed to enhance the skills of Nigerian youths across all six geopolitical zones through customized training and provision of fully-loaded laptop computers with networking devices. The programme aims to equip young people with digital entrepreneurship skills to enable them to engage in different digital businesses. The beneficiaries are provided with free accommodation and engaged with resource persons in digital skills, business development, and management to retool them towards self-discovery, self-development, and self-employment.
The DJCY programme aligns with the National Digital Economic Policy and Strategy (NDEPS) 2020-2030, which promotes digital literacy and skills through the massive training of Nigerians from all walks of life. The programme aims to strengthen technical and scientific competences among youths with a view to creating opportunities for self-employment, improving access to ICT-enabled services, and strengthening the ICT micro, small and medium enterprises (MSME) sector of the economy.
The programme has so far trained over 2,000 Nigerian youths from all six geopolitical zones, and the ongoing edition has 600 youths being trained. Many of the previous participants have reported gainful self-employment, using the laptops and internet connectivity tools provided by the Commission. The programme has received commendations from the Federal Government for its efficient and effective implementation.
It is gratifying to note that the Commission has, through the Honourable Minister of Communications and Digital Economy, Prof. Ali Ibrahim Pantami, received the commendations of the Federal Government for the way and manner it had efficiently and effectively designed and implemented this programme for the benefit of the Nigerian youths.
The NCC remains fully committed to the DJCY programme and believes in its potential to enhance digital opportunities for Nigerian youth and the country’s digital economy.
