Dr. Aminu Maida, the Executive Vice Chairman (EVC) of the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC), has pledged to enhance telecommunications services in Nigeria, with a focus on consumer satisfaction.
Addressing Media Executives at a breakfast meeting in Abuja, Dr. Maida emphasized the NCC’s commitment to transparency in tariffs and billings to ensure proper billing for consumers. He acknowledged the challenges faced by consumers due to mobile access issues and vowed to address them through collaboration with telecom co mpanies.
Dr. Maida also addressed concerns regarding the use of telephone lines by bandits for criminal activities, stating that measures were being taken to secure the industry and curb the use of illegal SIM cards. He announced plans to deactivate all SIM cards not connected with the National Identity Number (NIN) by the end of February and sanction those involved in the sale of illegal SIM cards.
In addition, Dr. Maida highlighted the NCC’s strategic focus areas, including consumer satisfaction, industry growth, and collaboration with the government. He stressed the importance of finding a delicate balance between government revenue generation and industry investment while prioritizing consumer needs.
Furthermore, Dr. Maida emphasized data-driven decision-making and measures to improve the ease of doing business in the telecom sector. He assured that the NCC would work towards harmonizing license categories and enhancing operating standards to create a conducive environment for telecom companies and consumers alike.
As the NCC aims to put smiles on the faces of consumers, Dr. Maida called for fair reporting by the media and urged collaboration to achieve win-win scenarios for all stakeholders in the telecom industry.
