The Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) has inaugurated a Centre of Excellence in Abuja, dedicated to equipping Nigerians with technical and vocational skills essential for supporting the digital economy.
Speaking at the launch, Minister of Communications, Innovation and Digital Economy, Dr. Bosun Tijani, emphasized the importance of collaboration for the success of the initiative. “My expectation is that NCC will collaborate with more stakeholders to make this initiative a true centre of excellence for Africa. There is no society in the world that can prosper without connectivity. The connectivity requires humans for its proper functioning,” Dr. Tijani stated.
The Executive Vice Chairman of the NCC, Dr. Aminu Maida, highlighted the unique opportunities the center will provide. “This is the first time in Nigeria when our radio engineers will have the opportunity to come and touch and feel what a radio looks like,” Dr. Maida said. He also expressed optimism about the potential for innovation in the 5G era, noting that the skills acquired at the center would drive significant advancements. “We would actually see a lot of innovations through this Centre,” he added.
