The Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) commenced a two-day Public Inquiry today, focusing on three critical regulatory instruments. The Executive Vice Chairman of NCC, Dr. Aminu Maida, highlighted the importance of the event in his opening remarks, emphasizing the commission’s commitment to transparency and stakeholder inclusivity in regulatory development.
During his address, Dr. Maida underscored the significance of the inquiry as part of NCC’s consultative approach to ensuring that industry regulations are shaped by comprehensive stakeholder input. He stressed that the Telecommunications Networks Interconnect Regulations, Guidelines on Procedure for Granting Approval to Disconnect Telecommunications Operators, and Guidelines for Dispute Resolution are pivotal in fostering a competitive and efficient telecom industry in Nigeria.
Dr. Maida elaborated on the necessity of revisiting and refining these instruments to keep pace with technological advancements and align with international standards. He invited participants to engage in meaningful discussions to address the current needs and challenges of the communications sector, with the aim of promoting innovation, fair competition, and consumer protection. The inquiry, held at the NCC Headquarters in Abuja, seeks to ensure that the telecommunications sector continues to evolve and meet the demands of the digital age.
