…Set to Establish 5G/4G Test Lab and Train 200 Nigerian Youths in Telecommunications Technologies

By Rahmatullah Mahmud

The Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) has taken a significant stride towards enhancing the capacity and skills of young Nigerians in the telecommunications industry through a strategic collaboration with Nokia Solutions and Networks Nigeria. Under the leadership of the Honorable Minister of Communications, Innovation, and Digital Economy, Dr. Bosun Tijani, a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed earlier this week to train aspiring professionals on the latest 4G/5G radio and transmission technologies at the NCC’s Digital Parks.

This groundbreaking partnership will see Nokia Nigeria establishing a fully functional 5G/4G test lab, utilizing cutting-edge radio and transmission technologies. By leveraging Nokia’s expertise, the initiative aims to equip Nigerian youth with contemporary skills and knowledge essential for navigating the rapidly evolving telecommunications landscape. The establishment of the test lab signifies a pivotal step towards positioning Nigeria at the forefront of telecommunications innovation and development.

In addition to the technical training provided at the Digital Parks, Nokia Nigeria will launch an Entrepreneur Learning Program aimed at delivering high-quality vocational training to 200 Nigerian students selected from across the six geopolitical zones. This initiative aligns with the Ministry of Communications, Innovation, and Digital Economy’s vision to drive digital literacy and cultivate a pipeline of technical talents nationwide. Dr. Bosun Tijani expressed his enthusiasm for the collaboration, highlighting its potential to significantly enhance the quality of Nigeria’s telecommunications workforce.

The partnership between the NCC and Nokia underscores a shared commitment to advancing digital literacy, fostering innovation, and building a skilled workforce capable of driving Nigeria’s digital transformation agenda. As the telecommunications sector continues to evolve, initiatives like this will play a crucial role in equipping Nigerian youth with the expertise and competencies needed to thrive in an increasingly digitized world. With the support of industry leaders like Nokia, Nigeria is poised to realize its full potential as a leading player in the global telecommunications arena.
