The Kogi State Chapter of the Nigerian Association of Small and Medium Enterprises (NASME) recently held a meeting with the National President of the National Cashew Association of Nigeria (NCAN) to discuss the future of the cashew industry in the state.
The meeting was prompted by a recent BusinessDay publication and a previous resolution by the Kogi State Assembly to ban foreign buyers from directly accessing cashew farmers in the state.
During the discussion, both the NASME Chairman and the NCAN President analyzed the potential and economic benefits of the cashew industry. They explored how cashew farming and trade could drive sustainable revenue and economic growth for farmers and businesses in Kogi State.
NASME reaffirmed its commitment to supporting agribusinesses and promoting policies that benefit cashew growers. The association also encouraged the Kogi State Government to explore long-term strategies for strengthening the cashew supply chain and ensuring fair trade opportunities for local farmers.
This meeting marks a significant step toward protecting local farmers and ensuring that the cashew industry continues to thrive in Kogi State.
