The National Agency for Science and Engineering Infrastructure (NASENI) has commenced a three-day training programme on staff of the Agency for installation and maintenance of 100,000 Solar Home Systems across the country.

 

The Executive Vice Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of the Agency, Mr. Khalil Suleiman Halilu, represented by the Overseeing Officer of NASENI Solar Energy Ltd (NSEL), Karshi, Mrs. Blessing Agbo in his welcome address, disclosed this while declaring the training open on Wednesday, September 17, 2025.

 

The EVC further commended the initiative and partnership with A-Solar Ltd to train the Agency staff, stressing that the collaboration was aimed at providing alternative energy solutions, focusing on off-grid systems and rural electrification.

 

“Our partnership with A-Solar Ltd will provide you with hands-on training on solar installation, which will later be deployed to the wider society. We rely on our commitment, do not disappoint the Agency. We want this initiative to have a far-reaching impact,” Halilu stated.

 

Echoing the development, the Managing Director of A-Solar Ltd, Dr Momoh Jimoh, noted that the training would equip the Agency’s with new skills, capacity development and value addition. “We are committed to deploying 100,000 Home Solar Systems to Nigerians. This is only the beginning and we will ensure strict compliance with the terms of the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between A-Solar and NASENI,” he affirmed.

 

In his opening remarks, the Team Lead of the NASENI-A-Solar partnership, Engr. David Mutuah, further explained that the MoU signed in 2023 aligns with NASENI’s mandate of promoting home-grown industrialisation and technological development. He recalled when the agreement was designed to improve energy access, empower local investors and create a high-value export industry through off-grid solutions and rural electrification.

 

Mutuah further noted that significant progress has been made since the signing of the MoU, including the deployment of about 7,438 Solar Home System in Abuja and Kano, as well as capacity building efforts in product knowledge, technical configuration, features, specifications, warranty processes and resolution protocols.

 

The three-day capacity-building exercise involves 15 participants drawn from NASENI headquarters and its institutes nationwide.
