The National Agency for Science and Engineering Infrastructure (NASENI) has tasked staff of the Technology Business Development Department systemwide to imbibe innovation-driven marketing skills to move the Agency’s commercialization drive forward.

The Coordinating Director, Planning and Business Development Directorate, Dr. (Mrs.) Nonyem Onyechi stated the above during the opening of a 3-day training for staff of the department on Monday, November 10, 2025, at the Agency’s headquarters in Abuja.

She emphasized the need for stronger strategic business development plans to enhance marketability and commercialization of the Agency’s products in the country.

Dr. Onyechi attributed NASENI’s recent achievements to the coordinated strategies driven by the Executive Vice Chairman and Chief Executive Officer, Khalil Suleiman Halilu, noting that the EVC’s leadership has repositioned the Agency towards innovation-driven commercialization.

Represented by the Director of Technology Business Development and Special Adviser to the EVC on General Matters, Engr. Bernard Ozigi, Dr. Onyechi commended the EVC’s efforts in ensuring that NASENI’s inventions. reach the market.

“Thirty per cent of NASENI’s 164 patented products were introduced to the market within the first year of Mr. Halilu’s administration,” she revealed, adding that any product developed but not commercialized remains an unfulfilled mandate.

She further pledged a renewed focus on developing more robust strategies to ensure NASENI’s products become competitive both local and international levels. While expressing appreciation to the management and staff of the Directorate for their dedication, she urged participants to pay close attention during the training and cascade the knowledge gained to colleagues at their respective centres for improved productivity.

Dr Onyechi, however, expressed concern about the limited personnel in the Directorate but assured that efforts were underway to address the challenge.

In his goodwill message, the Acting Coordinating Director for Engineering Infrastructure, Engr. Dr Abdulrasheed Agava congratulated the TBD department for its commitment to driving the commercialization of NASENI’s innovations. “The department is key to ensuring our products achieve market relevance and competitiveness. Without commercialization, the energy invested in product development is wasted,” he said.

Agava also pledged continued collaboration between the Engineering Infrastructure Directorate and the TBD to strengthen NASENI’s position as a leading technology hub in Nigeria and sub-Saharan Africa. Highlights of the event included paper presentations, interactive sessions and panel discussions. A communiqué is expected at the end of the training.
