The National Agency for Science and Engineering Infrastructure (NASENI), led by its Executive Vice Chairman (EVC), Mr. Khalil Suleiman Halilu, has presented its 2025 budget to the National Assembly Joint Committee on NASENI. The meeting, held in Abuja, allowed the agency to review its achievements in 2024 and share plans for the coming year, focused on using science and technology to solve major challenges like food security, energy, and industrial development.

Mr. Halilu highlighted key accomplishments in 2024, which align with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s goals for economic growth. NASENI made significant strides in 2024 across key sectors, including agriculture, renewable energy, and industrial growth. These achievements have prepared NASENI for its ambitious goals in 2025.

The EVC outlined NASENI’s focus areas for the this year, which include:

  • Expanding Irrigation Projects: Rolling out the “Irrigate Nigeria” program nationwide to allow farmers to grow crops more frequently and reduce food shortages.
  • Increasing Solar Energy: Raising solar energy production to over 100 megawatts and promoting the local manufacturing of solar panels.
  • Innovative Technologies: Supporting research in electric vehicles, clean energy, and advanced farming tools.
  • Training Engineers: Partnering with global experts to build the skills of Nigerian engineers and scientists.
  • Economic Growth: Helping small businesses with affordable, locally made machines to boost productivity and create jobs.

Mr. Halilu assured the National Assembly that the budget was carefully planned to address Nigeria’s challenges, with a focus on transparency and efficiency.

 

As NASENI prepares for 2025, the agency remains committed to driving Nigeria’s technological and industrial development. With its focus on agriculture, renewable energy, and innovation, NASENI aims to help the country become more self-reliant and economically advanced.
