The Executive Governor of Katsina State, Mal. Dikko Umaru Radda, PhD, has emerged as a trailblazer by boldly waiving Right of Way (RoW) charges in the state. The significance of this decision was underscored during his visit to the Nigeria Communication Commission (NCC) headquarters, where he met with the distinguished Executive Vice Chairman, Dr. Aminu Wada Maida.
Dr. Maida, expressing his honor at hosting Governor Radda, highlighted the Governor’s commitment to removing obstacles hindering broadband penetration. Governor Radda’s strategic decision to waive RoW charges aligns seamlessly with the collective goal of achieving 70% broadband penetration as outlined in the National Broadband Plan by 2025. The Governor’s forward-thinking approach is hailed as a catalyst for success in this ambitious endeavor.
During their meeting, Governor Radda shared innovative policies and programs implemented in Katsina State, showcasing a profound understanding of the pivotal role digital connectivity infrastructure plays in driving economic development. Notably, the State’s ability to rapidly survey over 3,800 educational institutions within two weeks, facilitated by pervasive connectivity, exemplifies the transformative impact of Governor Radda’s vision.
The Governor’s commitment extends beyond the borders of Katsina State, as he expressed keen support for the National Broadband Alliance project initiated by Dr. Bosun Tijani, the Honorable Minister of the Federal Ministry of Communications, Innovation, and Digital Economy. This alliance aims to collaboratively develop sustainable business models for internet adoption in critical public institutions nationwide.
In response, Dr. Maida assured Governor Radda of the NCC’s unwavering collaboration and support, pledging to work together to achieve a digitally progressive Katsina State. The Governor’s visit underscored the pivotal role telecommunications plays in the digital economy agenda, emphasizing the importance of infrastructure development in achieving streamlined government operations.
Governor Radda, reiterated the significance of the telecommunications sector in driving the digital economy agenda. His request for NCC’s support in enhancing telecommunications and internet infrastructure across various sectors in Katsina State aligns with his commitment to digitalize the civil service and implement e-government initiatives, ensuring cost-effective communication among MDAs.
