The Kano State Police Command has issued a public announcement regarding the upcoming re-run elections for three Kano State House of Assembly Constituencies scheduled to take place on Saturday, 3rd February 2024. The elections will span sixty-six polling units across six Local Government Areas, namely Tsanyawa/Kunchi, Kura/Garun Mallam, and Tofa/Rimin Gado.

 

In preparation for a smooth and secure electoral process, the Police Command, in collaboration with relevant security agencies within the Inter-agency Consultative Committee on Elections Security (ICCES), has outlined essential security guidelines for prospective voters and election officials.

 

Key Security Guidelines:

 

Movement Restrictions: There will be restrictions on movement in the six designated LGAs during the re-run elections, with exceptions for essential services. Only accredited individuals, including press members, will have access.

 

VIP Escort Ban: Policemen are prohibited from escorting VIPs and political office holders to election locations.

 

Thuggery and Troublemakers: Strict measures against thuggery and the importation of troublemakers are in place, with deployed security personnel authorized to apprehend any individuals causing disturbances.

 

Weapons Prohibition: Carrying any form of weapons during the rerun elections is strictly prohibited.

 

Eligible Voting: Only eligible voters screened by INEC will be allowed to vote, and voters must possess valid voter cards for the specific polling unit.

 

Restricted Access: Only accredited individuals, including Party Agents, will be allowed within the voting premises.

 

Stop and Search: Rigorous stop-and-search operations and patrols will be conducted in all LGAs where re-run elections are scheduled.

 

Exclusion of Quasi Security Outfits: Quasi security outfits such as Hisbah, KAROTA, Vigilante, Hunters, Man O War, Boys Scouts, etc., will not participate in the re-run elections.
