On Thursday, 16th of May 2024, the Commissioner of Police, Kano State Command, CP Mohammed Usaini Gumel, FIPMA, psc received members of the State Judicial Commission of Inquiry, led by Hon. Justice Zuwaira Yusuf the Chairperson on a courtesy visit.


In her remark, the Chairperson stated that “As you may be aware, His Excellency, the Executive Governor of Kano State has set up the Judicial Commission of Inquiry to investigate political violence and cases of missing persons that occurred in the State from 2015 to date. Part of the mandate are to find out root causes, sponsor, perpetrators as well as to trace the victims of the circumstances and to recommended effective ways of preventing in future all forms of politically motivated and regime-sponsored violence. Therefore we deemed it very necessary to visit you and your officers in consideration of your dogged efforts in fighting these menaces since your assumption of office as CP in the State.


Furthermore, we want to join you on what you have started especially taking away those youths engaging in thuggery-related crimes off the streets so that the good people of Kano State will continue to have peace and succor.

Finally, we are seeking your cooperation encouragement, and commitment to discharging our mandates effectively. Thank you.”

In his response, the Commissioner of Police stated that “Indeed we are honored to receive you. From my assumption of duty, the Police Command adopted both the stick and carrot method with which within three months, we arrested and prosecuted more than one thousand (1000+) hardened criminals of various offenses. Consequently, that action prompted the soften criminals to embrace dialogue and surrendered themselves including their weapons to the Police Command. Therefore Commission is going to help us to tidy up what we have done in the past. As such, we are going to give you the maximum cooperation. However, to be frank with you, all members of this commission are advised to remain professionals, honest and transparent in carrying out this assignment. Thank you.”
