Sacrifices of officers and men of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), in the maintenance of peace and stability for the well-being of the populace has received commendation with a charge on the management of the Corps to harness more capacities of personnel for more security of the country.

New Minister of Interior, Dr Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, while on his first familiarisation visit to the headquarters of the NSCDC in Abuja since assumption of duty remarked, “I appreciate the NSCDC for thankless job and sacrifices made for Nigerians to sleep in peace.”

Tunji-Ojo who could not hide his feelings on various displays by the personnel of Corps on different duties executed by the agency during his visit, described the Commandant General, Dr Ahmed Abubakar Audi mni, ofr, as an “innovative CG.”

He tasked the NSCDC to scale up its performance to deliver on its clear mandate of protection of critical national assets and infrastructure in the country such as pipelines, schools and hospitals among others.

The responsibilities of NSCDC are very clear; Protection of critical national assets and Infrastructure such as pipelines, hospitals and schools etc, the Minister said.

While he assured the Corps of President Ahmed Bola Tinubu’s support to succeed, Tunji-Ojo expressed optimism based on the simulation exercises carried out saying the Corps would succeed in any duty it has set out to perform.

Continuing, he reiterated, “whatever is needed for the NSCDC to succeed, the President is committed to it.”

Accompanied on the visit by the Permanent Secretary in the Ministry, Dr Oluwatoyin Akinlade, Directors and other dignitaries, the Minister reminded personnel of the Corps to treat Nigerians with respect, warning that being in uniform is not an opportunity to abuse the rights of citizens in the course of duty.

Being a ministry whose mandate is to ensure internal security, the minister expressed the need to harness capacities of men and Officers of the NSCDC which lead to a reduction in the way members of the Armed forces are overstretched on issues of internal security.

As a form of motivation for hard work which he has promised to reward, the Minister announced, “we will do all in our powers to ensure the two female African Champions are given automatic promotions.”

The familiarisation visit also provided opportunity for the Minister and his entourage to witness activities performed at the National Safe Schools Response Coordination Centre (NSSRCC), which was established on 13th February, 2023 thus, marking the official implementation of the national safe Schools Project.

Responding in an address of welcome, Commandant General of the Corps, Dr Ahmed Abubakar Audi, mni, thanked and welcomed the Minister and members of his entourage to Corps Headquarters.

He reiterated NSCDC’s commitment to key into the dictates of the Minister, promising to work at the pace he has set for them.

Other highlights of the visit include inspection of Quarter-guard by the Minister as a mark of honour, presentation of NSCDC plaque and art work of the Minister’s picture drawn by an officer of the Corps by the Commandant General.
