The House of Representatives has directed the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) to block all pornographic websites in the country. This decision was made to protect young people from the harmful effects of explicit content and to uphold moral values in society.

During a session in Abuja, lawmakers expressed concern over the easy access to pornography, especially among children and teenagers. They noted that such content contributes to moral decay, sexual violence, and other social issues.

The House, therefore, instructed the NCC to take immediate action by working with internet service providers to restrict access to pornographic websites. Lawmakers also urged parents, religious leaders, and schools to play active roles in educating young people about the dangers of pornography.

In response, the NCC assured the lawmakers that it would review the directive and explore ways to enforce the ban effectively. The commission also emphasized the need for cooperation from telecommunications companies and internet providers to implement the restriction successfully.

The move has sparked mixed reactions among Nigerians. While some support the decision as a way to promote decency, others argue that the government should focus on more pressing issues like unemployment, insecurity, and economic hardship.

As the NCC prepares to enforce the ban, experts suggest that the government should also introduce digital literacy programs to educate citizens on responsible internet use.
