The 8th edition of the GTCO Fashion Weekend came to a close yesterday, leaving an indelible mark on the African fashion landscape. The two-day event, themed “Fashion Is Freedom,” showcased the continent’s vibrant creativity, innovation, and entrepreneurial spirit.

 

The weekend featured inspiring masterclasses led by global fashion leaders, including Bianca Saunders, Jade Oyateru, and Melissa Butler on Day 1, and Maria Borges, Christina Tegbe, and Patrick Ta on Day 2. These sessions provided practical knowledge on scaling businesses, attracting investors, and competing on the global stage.

 

Bianca Saunders shared insights on “THE Business of Creativity: Scaling a Fashion Brand Beyond Wholesale,” while Jade Oyateru discussed “The Power of Story: Building Brands People Believe In.” Melissa Butler, founder of The Lip Bar, spoke about building a business from zero to a multi-million dollar empire.

On Day 2, Maria Borges, a world-renowned supermodel, shared her expertise on “The Model Mindset: From Getting Signed to Staying Relevant.” Christina Tegbe and Patrick Ta also led masterclasses, further enriching the event.

 

The runway shows were equally spectacular, with standout performances from designers like Ituen Basi, The Bam Collective, Sevon Dejana, Mmuso Maxwell, Mowalola, and Priya Ahluwalia. Their collections blended African heritage, sustainability, and contemporary style, captivating audiences and redefining the boundaries of African fashion.
