The Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) has debunked circulating rumors about the approval of new telecom tariff plans or an increase in existing tariffs. In a recent statement, the NCC advised the public to disregard these misleading reports, clarifying that no such approvals have been given. Instead, the NCC has directed telecom operators to simplify their current tariff plans to ensure transparency and fairness for consumers.

The rumors, initially spread by some social media bloggers, falsely claimed that the NCC had approved tariff hikes for major telecom companies, including MTN, Airtel, and Glo. These claims suggested that the new increases would affect voice, SMS, data, and other services, resulting in higher costs for Nigerian consumers.

In response, the NCC emphasized the importance of accurate information and urged consumers to rely on official communications for updates. This move aims to counteract the spread of misinformation and reassure the public about the stability of telecom tariffs in Nigeria. The NCC remains committed to protecting consumer interests and ensuring a fair and transparent telecom industry.
