Dr. Aminu Maida, the Executive Vice Chairman of the Nigerian Communication Commission (NCC), recently called meetings with important stakeholders to discuss his strategic vision for the telecom sector in a momentous occasion commemorating his first 100 days in office. Speaking with media executives and CEOs of telecom firms, Dr. Maida emphasized that the goals of the NCC will be in line with the strategic plan that the Honorable Minister of Communication, Innovation, and Digital Economy, Dr. Bosun Tijani, has laid out.

Dr. Maida presented his vision and the five drivers that drive his leadership, focusing on the NCC’s digitalization of operations, data-driven decision-making, careful enforcement of compliance, investment in human resources, and teamwork. The government, licensees, and other industry participants, and customers are the three main stakeholders whose expectations must be met. These drivers are crucial to achieving his strategic target areas.

Dr. Maida strives to “put a smile on the face of telecom consumers” by improving the quality of service at every touchpoint, from network choices to support services. Her top objective is to make sure that customers have a seamless experience. Dr. Maida wants to strengthen the sector’s telecommunications infrastructure, boost licensing performance, pay off industry debt, and make doing business easier for licensees.

Throughout the consultations, Dr. Maida highlighted multiple important topics, such as promoting an improved corporate governance structure to guarantee accountability and transparency in the telecom sector, providing a favorable business environment for operators, advocating for waiving Right of Way costs, designating telecom infrastructure as Critical National Infrastructure, and removing multiple taxation.

Dr. Maida also aims to assist in the expansion of the telecommunications sector and make a contribution to the initiative for Digital Public Infrastructure. To maintain sustained growth and stability, Dr. Maida emphasized that the industry must move from a development phase to a maturity phase and promote compliance.

Dr. Aminu Maida’s strategic vision and dedication to growing Nigeria’s telecom sector highlights her engagement with stakeholders. The future of telecommunications in the nation is brightened by Dr. Maida’s leadership, which places a strong emphasis on government alignment, industry resilience, and customer pleasure.
